our activities
Five books were written and published providing details about Revolutionary War Patriots buried in eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia. The books were sold to the public and many were provided free of charge to area libraries for their geneology reference sections. Currently only Volume Five is still available for purchase while all five volumes can be purchased as CDs. Special thanks to the many dedicated individuals who worked countless hours to create this valuable resource!
We're currently utilizing the facts from our books to install informational signs in most of these same cemeteries in eastern Ohio where the Revolutionary War Soldiers are buried. These aluminum signs are being locally manufactured by the welding shop students at Harrison County and Jefferson County Joint Vocational Schools. The replaceable labels we install on them provide names of soldiers buried in the cemetery along with a QR code directing the visitor to further information on our website. Funding for this project has come from private and government sources.
Every year we participate at the Fort Henry Days held on Labor Day Weekend at Oglebay Park, Wheeling, WV. Our Color Guard posts the colors at various ceremonies throughout the weekend. Chapter members also provide information about the Revolutionary War, patriots and about the SAR.
Fort Laurens, built in 1778 and located in Bolivar is Ohio's only Revolutionary War fort. Besides raising money throughout the year for the rebuilding of the fort, our Color Guard places a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot there each July.
Each October our Color Guard participates in memorial ceremonies commemorating the Battle of Point Pleasant, WV, the only major action of Dunmore's War.
At the Ohio Valley Frontier Days held early each summer at Fort Steuben in Steubenville, OH, we provide information about the Revolutionary War, patriots and about our organization.
Chapter members visit cemeteries to conduct grave markings and plaque dedications honoring Revolutionary War Patriots. Generally these individuals are ancesters of our chapter compatriots.
Outstanding law enforcement officers and fire department first responders in our area are honored annually by the Ebenezer Zane Chapter with Certificates of Appreciation.
The compatriots of our chapter honor our country's deceased veterans by placing wreaths on their graves in December through participation in the Wreaths Across America program.
Deserving public or private entities that show respect for our nation's flag through its proper display are presented with Flag Awards by the Ebenezer Zane Chapter.
Patriotic-themed books have been read to students and donated to area schools and libraries.
A replica uniform of a Revolutionary War Soldier was donated to the Belmont County Military Veterans Museum in Belmont, OH and is on display there to the public.
We honor our deceased chapter compatriots at their funerals as requested.
The Ebenezer Zane Chapter is always looking for new ways to promote patriotism, serve our communities and educate and inspire future generations about the founding principles of our country.
